Lip Flip in Pensacola, FL

A softer, fuller-looking upper lip without filler

A lip flip is a quick injectable treatment that uses a few units of neurotoxin (like Botox or Dysport) to relax the muscle around your upper lip. As that muscle relaxes, the lip gently rolls outward, showing more of its natural pink and giving it a fuller look. You aren't adding volume. At Abound Aesthetics, a boutique med spa in downtown Pensacola, lip flips are performed by Rebecca Trevino, APRN, and take about 15 minutes.

Who is a lip flip for?

A lip flip may be right for you if:

  1. Your upper lip seems to "disappear" when you smile
  2. You show more gum than you'd like when you smile (a "gummy smile")
  3. You want your lips to look a little fuller, but filler isn't for you
  4. Your lipstick doesn't sit right because your upper lip curls inward
  5. You're curious about lip enhancement and want to start with something subtle and temporary

For many of our Pensacola clients, a lip flip is how they try lip enhancement for the first time. It's subtle, quick, and wears off on its own.

How does A Lip Flip Work?

The orbicularis oris is the ring of muscle around your mouth. It pulls your lips inward when you smile, talk, or purse. In a lip flip, a small amount of neurotoxin goes into precise points along the border of your upper lip. That part of the muscle relaxes and lets the lip roll gently up and out.

The result is more of your own lip showing. Nothing is added, and the shape stays yours.

Lip flip vs. lip filler: what's the difference?

What it usesNeurotoxin (Botox, Dysport, Daxxify)                                    Hyaluronic acid filler (like Juvéderm)
What it doesRelaxes the muscle so the lip rolls outward                                  Adds real volume and shape
LookVery subtle, natural                                  Noticeably fuller, customizable
How long it lastsAbout 2–3 months                               About 6–12 months
Time in chair~15 minutes                              ~30–45 minutes
Best for First-timers, gummy smiles, a thin upper lip on smile                                    Adding volume, definition, symmetry

Can you get both? Yes. Some clients pair a lip flip with filler. The flip shows more of the lip, and the filler adds structure. Becca will tell you during your consultation whether one, both, or neither makes sense for you.

What to expect: before, during, and after

Before:

You'll start with a consultation with Rebecca Trevino, APRN. She'll look at your lips, your smile, and your goals. Avoid alcohol and blood-thinning supplements (fish oil, vitamin E, ibuprofen) for 24 to 48 hours beforehand if your doctor says it's okay, to lower your chance of bruising.

During:

The treatment takes about 15 minutes. Becca makes a few tiny injections along your upper lip line. Most clients describe it as a quick pinch, and there's no downtime.

After:

  1. Results start to show in 3–5 days, and the full effect appears around 2 weeks
  2. For the first week or so, you might notice small changes when drinking from a straw, whistling, or saying "p" and "b" sounds. This is normal and settles as you adjust.
  3. Stay upright for 4 hours, skip strenuous workouts for 24 hours, and don't massage the area
  4. You can go right back to work, school pickup, or a Pensacola Beach afternoon (just bring your sunscreen)

How long does a lip flip last?

A lip flip usually lasts about 2 to 3 months. The muscles around the mouth move all day, which is why results fade sooner than forehead or crow's-feet treatments. Many clients come back for maintenance every 8 to 12 weeks.

FAQ

What is a lip flip?

A lip flip is a cosmetic injectable treatment that uses a small amount of neurotoxin to relax the muscle above the upper lip, letting it roll slightly outward for a fuller, more defined look without filler.

Does a lip flip hurt?

Most people feel only a few quick pinches. It's one of the fastest injectable treatments we offer.

How long does a lip flip take to work?

You'll start to see results in 3 to 5 days, with the full effect around 2 weeks.

How long does a lip flip last?

Usually about 2–3 months, depending on your muscle activity and metabolism.

Is a lip flip the same as lip filler?

No. A lip flip relaxes a muscle so the lip rolls outward. Lip filler adds actual volume with hyaluronic acid. They can be combined.

Can a lip flip fix a gummy smile?

Often, yes. Relaxing the upper lip muscle can keep the lip from lifting as high when you smile, so less gum shows.

What are the side effects of a lip flip?

The most common are mild swelling, a small bruise, and temporary difficulty with straws, whistling, or certain sounds for the first several days.
