Chemical Peels in Pensacola, FL

Correction, controlled.

A chemical peel applies a controlled solution to the skin to remove damaged surface layers, prompting fresher, more even skin to replace them. Peels treat pigmentation, sun damage, texture, acne, and dullness. At Abound Aesthetics in Pensacola, peel strength is matched to your skin type and concern by licensed esthetician Hannah Moseley, which matters more here than most places, because the wrong peel on the wrong skin can cause the exact pigmentation you came in to fix.

How Peels Work

Your skin sheds and replaces itself constantly. That process slows with age, and sun damage disrupts it, which is how pigment accumulates unevenly and texture roughens.

A chemical peel accelerates it deliberately. A solution, usually an acid at a specific concentration and pH, dissolves the bonds holding dead surface cells together. Those layers lift away over the following days, and the skin underneath is newer, more evenly pigmented, and smoother.

Depth is everything. A superficial peel works within the epidermis: mild flaking, a few days, good for glow and maintenance. A medium peel reaches the upper dermis: real peeling, five to seven days, and genuine correction of pigment and texture.

Deeper is not automatically better. The right peel is the shallowest one that will address your concern, because every increase in depth increases both downtime and risk.

What We Use

Glycolic acid - the smallest AHA molecule, so it penetrates efficiently. Good for texture, dullness, and fine lines. SkinCeuticals MicroPeel.

Salicylic acid - oil-soluble, so it works inside the pore. The right choice for acne and congestion.

Lactic acid - gentler and hydrating. Suits sensitive or dry skin and works well as a first peel.

VI Peels or TCA blends - medium-depth, for meaningful pigment and texture correction. More downtime, more result.

Which one you get is decided at your appointment, not when you book. Skin changes between visits, a peel that was right in January may be wrong in July. That's not upselling, it's the actual practice.

Who's Treating You

Peels at Abound Aesthetics are performed by Hannah Moseley, licensed esthetician and owner.

Peel selection is judgment, not a menu choice. Skin type, history, season, sun habits, and what your skin is doing that week all change the right answer. Getting it wrong doesn't produce a disappointing result, it produces pigmentation that takes months to resolve.

Hannah founded Abound on the belief that beauty isn't about perfection but about amplifying what already makes you uniquely you. On this treatment, that mostly means being conservative and honest about timing.

Peels, Pigmentation, and Malasma

Peels are one of the better tools for pigmentation. They're also the treatment most capable of making pigmentation worse. Both things are true and you should hear both.

The mechanism of the risk: a peel is controlled inflammation. In skin that's prone to it, deeper skin tones, and anyone with a history of post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation, inflammation itself can trigger new pigment. So a peel intended to lighten a spot can, if it's too aggressive for that skin, produce a darker one.

On melasma specifically: melasma is a chronic condition that is managed, not cured. It is driven by hormones, heat, and light, and it recurs. Peels can improve it meaningfully as part of a broader plan but an aggressive peel on melasma is one of the more reliable ways to make it flare.

So here's how we work. We assess your skin type honestly before choosing a peel. With deeper skin tones or a history of PIH, we start conservatively and build. With melasma, we treat cautiously, combine with daily sun protection and appropriate home care, and set the expectation that we're managing a condition rather than curing one.

And sometimes we say no. If your skin is currently inflamed, if you've had recent sun exposure, or if the honest answer is that a peel is the wrong first step, we'll tell you. That conversation costs us a booking regularly.

What Peels Won't Fix:

  1. Deep wrinkles and volume loss. Structural, not surface.

Dermal filler →

  1. Expression lines. Muscle-driven.

Botox →

  1. Deep acne scarring. Peels improve surrounding texture; they don't remodel scars.

Microneedling →

  1. Skin laxity. No peel tightens skin.

RF Microneedling →

  1. Melasma, permanently. It's managed, not cured. Anyone promising to clear it is overselling.

Pico Laser →

  1. Anything, if you won't wear sunscreen. This is the honest one. A peel without daily SPF is money spent on a result that reverses.

What to Expect

Before: stop retinoids 5 to 7 days ahead. No waxing, threading, or laser hair removal for two weeks. No sun exposure or tanning for two weeks, this one is non-negotiable and we will reschedule you. Tell us about cold sores; peels trigger outbreaks and we'll want you on an antiviral.

During: cleanse, then the solution is applied in layers while we watch your skin. Tingling to stinging for a few minutes, strongest in the first minute of each layer. Thirty to forty-five minutes total.

Immediately after: red, warm, swollen. More pronounced than standard microneedling and it will look worse than it feels. A grid pattern from the needle tips is sometimes visible for a day or two. That's normal.

Day 1-2: tight, slightly red, a bit like windburn. Usually no visible peeling yet.

Day 3-5: peeling begins, typically around the mouth and nose first. Do not pick or pull. Pulling at attached skin is the single most common cause of scarring and pigmentation after a peel. Let it come off on its own.

Days 5-10 : peeling finishes and you see your result.

Aftercare: gentle cleanser and moisturizer only. No retinoids or acids for a week. No exercise, sauna, hot tub, or pool for 48 hours. SPF 30+ daily without exception — fresh skin burns and pigments easily, and skipping it undoes the treatment.

Peels in Pensacola

This is the treatment where Pensacola actively works against you, and we'd rather be direct about it.

Peels and sun are incompatible in both directions. You need two weeks of no sun before, and diligent protection for weeks after on skin that is more vulnerable than usual.

Which is why we'd rather peel you in the fall and winter. October through March is genuinely the better season here. If you want a peel in June and you're at the beach most weekends, we will tell you honestly that you're likely to lose the result or worse.

That's a real conversation we have. If you can commit to hats, shade, and daily SPF through a Gulf Coast summer, a peel can work. If you can't, we'd rather book you a HydraFacial now and a peel in October.

Before an event: superficial peels need at least a week, medium peels a full two to three weeks. Never book a peel within a week of anything you care about.

We're at 100 S Baylen St E in downtown Pensacola. Thursdays until 7 and Saturdays.

Experience A Peel

Ready When You Are

A peel is one of the few treatments where the honest advice is often not right now.

Wrong season, recent sun, an event too close, skin that's inflamed, any of those and we'll tell you to wait. Not because we don't want your business, but because a peel done at the wrong time doesn't just underperform. It can leave you worse.

When the timing is right, though, few treatments do as much for pigment and texture.

Come sit with us and we'll tell you honestly whether this is your treatment and whether this is your season.

FAQ

How long does a chemical peel take to heal?

A superficial peel causes 1–3 days of mild flaking. A medium peel causes 5–7 days of visible peeling, with results appearing around day 5 to 10 once peeling finishes.

Do chemical peels hurt?

You'll feel tingling to stinging for a few minutes as each layer is applied, strongest in the first minute. It's brief and manageable, and most people describe it as intense rather than painful.

How many chemical peels do I need?

For general glow and maintenance, a single peel works. For pigmentation, acne, or texture correction, most people need a series of three to six spaced four to six weeks apart.

Are chemical peels safe for darker skin?

Yes, with the right peel and an experienced provider. Deeper skin tones have a higher risk of post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation, so treatment should start conservatively and build. Aggressive peels on skin prone to PIH can cause the pigmentation they were meant to treat.

Do chemical peels help melasma?

They can improve it as part of a broader plan that includes daily sun protection and appropriate home care. But melasma is a chronic condition that is managed rather than cured, and an overly aggressive peel can trigger a flare. It requires a cautious approach.

Can I get a chemical peel in the summer in Florida?

It's possible but not ideal. Peels require no sun exposure for two weeks beforehand and diligent protection afterward on skin that is more vulnerable than usual. Fall and winter are genuinely better seasons for peels on the Gulf Coast.

What should I not do after a chemical peel?

Do not pick or pull at peeling skin, that is the most common cause of scarring and pigmentation afterward. Avoid retinoids and acids for a week, and exercise, saunas, and pools for 48 hours. Wear SPF 30 or higher daily.

What's the difference between a chemical peel and a facial?

A facial cleanses, exfoliates, extracts, and hydrates as maintenance, with little to no downtime. A peel actively resurfaces the skin to correct pigment, texture, and acne, with several days of visible peeling in exchange.

Where can I get chemical peel in Pensacola?

At Abound Aesthetics, 100 S Baylen St E in downtown Pensacola.
