Laser Hair Removal in Pensacola, FL
Laser hair removal targets the pigment in your hair follicle with light energy, damaging the follicle so it produces less hair over time. At Abound Aesthetics in Pensacola we use the Lumenis LightSheer DESIRE, an 805nm diode laser used across skin tones with settings matched to yours. Most areas need 6 to 8 sessions spaced 4 to 8 weeks apart. It produces permanent hair reduction , significantly less hair, finer and lighter, rather than complete permanent removal.

The reason isn't that the laser is weak. It's that your hair isn't all doing the same thing at the same time.
Hair grows in cycles, and only hair in the active growth phase is attached to the follicle in a way the laser can affect. Hair that's resting or shedding at the moment of your appointment simply isn't connected to anything the laser can damage, so it isn't treated, and it grows back.
At any given moment, only a fraction of the hair in an area is in that active phase. Which means:
This is also why coming in early doesn't help. If you book three weeks after your last session instead of six, you're treating largely the same hair that's already been damaged and paying for it.
And why finishing the series matters. Stopping at session four means a meaningful portion of your follicles have never been treated during their growth phase. You'll get partial results and be disappointed by a treatment that would have worked.
This is the part most clinics don't tell you until after you've bought a package.
Laser hair removal works by targeting melanin, the pigment in your hair. The laser finds the pigment, heats it, and damages the follicle.
Which means it does not work on hair without pigment:
No device fixes this. It isn't about having the right laser or enough sessions. If there's no melanin in the hair, there's nothing for the light to target. Anyone who tells you otherwise is selling you a package that can't work.
What does work brilliantly: dark hair, across skin tones. The LightSheer's 805nm diode wavelength is well established for treating a broad range of skin types, with settings adjusted to yours. Deeper skin tones need more conservative parameters and an experienced operator, which is exactly why the device and the person holding it both matter more than the price.
If your hair is grey, red, or very light, we'll tell you at consultation rather than sell you a series. Electrolysis works regardless of pigment, and we'll point you there instead.
If you get painful ingrown hairs after shaving, raised bumps along the beard line, the neck, the bikini area, that has a name. Pseudofolliculitis barbae, or PFB. It happens when coarse, curly hair curves back and grows into the skin instead of out of it.
It's not a hygiene problem and it's not something you're doing wrong. It's a structural mismatch between curly hair and a razor, and it disproportionately affects people with tightly curled hair.
And most people with it have simply been told to live with it. Shave less often. Try a different razor. Use a warm compress. None of which addresses the cause, because the cause is that the hair keeps coming back.
The LightSheer is FDA cleared to treat PFB. Reducing the hair reduces the ingrowns, fewer hairs means fewer to curve back in. For people who've dealt with this for years, it's often the most meaningful thing we do.
What to expect if this is why you're here:
If this is you, say so at your consultation. It changes how we plan the treatment, and it's a different conversation than cosmetic hair removal.
Laser hair removal at Abound Aesthetics is performed by Rebecca Trevino, Nurse Practitioner.
Settings are matched to your skin tone, hair color and coarseness, and the area and adjusted across the series as your hair changes. Getting that wrong risks burns and pigment changes, particularly on deeper skin tones, which is exactly why the device and the operator both matter more than the price.
We're a boutique practice on purpose. We track your series properly and adjust rather than running a preset.
One of the most popular and most satisfying. Small area, fast sessions, and the daily-shaving relief is immediate.
Half or full. The biggest time investment per session and often the biggest quality-of-life change.
Private room, always, and at your pace. Substantially reduces ingrown hairs compared to shaving or waxing, which for many people is the real reason to do it.
Small, fast, and frequently the first thing people ask about. Often hormonally driven, so maintenance may be needed longer term.
Sideburns, jawline, neck. Delicate work that needs careful settings.
Popular with men. Large areas, and coarse dark hair responds particularly well.
Full or Half
Including the fine line of hair many people would rather not have.

Before: shave the area 24 hours before your appointment. Don't wax, pluck, or thread for four weeks beforehand. No sun or self-tanner for two weeks, we will reschedule tanned skin, since it's a genuine burn risk. Come with clean skin, no lotion, no deodorant on underarms.
During: eye protection, cool ultrasound gel or contact cooling, then the treatment. Five minutes for a lip, up to an hour for full legs.
Right after: redness and small raised bumps around each follicle, looking a bit like goosebumps. That's the follicle responding and it settles within a few hours to a day.
Days 1 to 14: this surprises people: the treated hair appears to keep growing for one to two weeks, then falls out. That's shedding, not regrowth. Don't pluck it, let it work its way out. Gentle exfoliation helps.
Weeks 3 to 6: a genuinely smooth stretch before the next cycle surfaces.
Across the series, each round comes back sparser, finer, and lighter.
Aftercare: no hot showers, saunas, hot tubs, pools, or heavy exercise for 24 to 48 hours. No sun on the area throughout the series. Daily SPF on exposed areas. Shave between sessions, never wax or pluck. No retinoids on treated facial areas for a few days.

This is the treatment Pensacola makes hardest, and being straight about it will save you money.
No sun on the treatment area for the whole series. Not just before each session, throughout. Tanned skin plus laser energy is a burn and pigmentation risk, and a series runs six to twelve months.
Which creates a genuine scheduling problem here. Legs and bikini in a Pensacola summer means beach days, boat days, and pool afternoons, all of which are exactly what you're being asked to avoid.
So the honest advice: start in the fall.
Beginning in September or October gets most of your sessions done through cooler, covered months, and has you finishing around the time you'd actually want to be in a swimsuit. Starting in May means either skipping the beach or losing sessions to rescheduling.
We'd genuinely rather book you in October than take your money in June and watch you cancel half your appointments. That's a real conversation we have.
One more: if you're tanned when you arrive, we will reschedule you. Not to be difficult, treating tanned skin risks burns and pigment changes that last far longer than the wait.

Most areas need 6 to 8 sessions, spaced 4 to 6 weeks apart for the face and 6 to 8 weeks for the body. The number is determined by hair growth cycles, only hair in its active growth phase can be treated, so multiple sessions are needed to catch each follicle at the right moment.
It produces permanent hair reduction rather than complete permanent removal. Expect significantly less hair that grows back finer and lighter, with occasional maintenance sessions. Anyone promising complete permanent removal is overstating it.
No. Laser targets melanin, the pigment in hair. White, grey, red, and very light blonde hair lack sufficient pigment for the laser to target, so these hair types do not respond regardless of device or number of sessions. Electrolysis works independently of pigment and is the appropriate alternative.
With the right device and settings, yes. We use the Lumenis LightSheer DESIRE, an 805nm diode laser used across a broad range of skin types with parameters matched to your skin tone. Deeper skin tones require more conservative settings and an experienced operator. IPL devices, which are not lasers, carry meaningfully more risk on deeper skin tones.
Yes. The LightSheer is FDA cleared to treat pseudofolliculitis barbae, the painful ingrown bumps that follow shaving, most common with coarse curly hair. Reducing the hair reduces the ingrowns. Existing scarring or dark marks from previous bumps won't resolve from hair reduction alone.
The Lumenis LightSheer DESIRE, an 805nm diode laser. It's FDA cleared for hair removal and permanent hair reduction, and for pseudofolliculitis barbae. It is a true laser rather than an IPL device.
A Vacuum or cooling is used throughout and coarse dense hair is more noticeable than fine hair. Sessions are short, five minutes for an upper lip, up to an hour for full legs.
Yes, shaving is required. What you must not do is wax, pluck, thread, or epilate, because those remove the hair root, which is the target the laser needs.
Yes, substantially. Reducing the hair reduces the ingrowns, which for many people, particularly in the bikini area, is the main reason to do it.
Pricing depends on the area and is usually offered as a package, since a full series is needed. We quote exactly at your complimentary consultation.
